FAQ
Vara Psychology offers a warm, confidential environment for you to explore life's challenges with genuine support and professional care. We believe that healing happens in spaces where you feel truly seen and heard. Our practice is built on creating that safe environment for you.
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other in a safe and welcoming space. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, what you’d like to work on, and how I can best support you. There’s no pressure to have it all figured out — together we’ll set some intentions and create an agreement for how we’ll work towards your goals.
No referral is needed to book an appointment. Many clients choose to come directly. However, if you would like to access Medicare rebates, you’ll need a referral and Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. If you’re a veteran, I can also see you under Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) funding pathways.
I use evidence-based approaches that are tailored to each person. My work is collaborative and client-centred, meaning we’ll decide together what works best for you. My focus is always on creating a space where you feel safe, supported, and understood.
Standard sessions are 50 minutes and cost $220. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $100 per session. Veterans with DVA approval can access sessions with no out-of-pocket cost. Please contact me if you’d like more details.
I offer both. You’re welcome to come into the practice for a face-to-face session, or if it’s easier, we can meet via secure telehealth (phone or video). You can select your preferred option when booking.
Life happens — if you need to change your appointment, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance so the time can be offered to someone else. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a cancellation fee of 50% of the standard appointment fee.
Yes, your privacy is very important. What you share in sessions is confidential, with only a few legal exceptions (such as if there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others, or when required by law). I’ll always discuss these boundaries with you so you feel informed and safe.
The number of sessions will depend on your unique needs, goals, and the nature of your concerns. While some issues may be resolved in just a few sessions, others may require longer-term support. Together, we will regularly review progress to ensure therapy continues to meet your needs.
Not at all. Many individuals engage in therapy as a preventative measure or as an opportunity to check in, reflect, and consider whether their current way of living aligns with their values and goals. While I have specialist training in clinical psychology, therapy is equally valuable for people who are healthy and thriving, offering the benefit of support and perspective from a professional who is outside of their day-to-day life.
That’s completely okay — every person and every situation is unique. If there’s something you’d like to know that isn’t covered here, please feel free to reach out directly. You can send me a message through the contact form or email me, and I’ll be glad to help.
